HIGH POINT — On May 2, as junior and senior high-schoolers all over the country attended their proms, Pennybyrn Retirement Community hosted their own second-chance senior prom, retirement style.
Everyone was dressed to the nines, in tuxedos or dresses of satin and lace. The night was full of dancing to iconic pop hits and forming Congo lines. Residents snacked on charcuterie board cheeses and appetizers, some even indulging in a little bubbly. Before the night was over, a prom king and queen were crowned.
Some residents brought outside dates like children, grandchildren or even great-grandchildren, while others kept it simple, sticking with their spouses.
Out of the roughly 100 residents who attended, about seven said it was the first prom. Some couples, like married residents Bill and Jackie Batts, had the opportunity to attend prom for the first time together. As always Pennybyrn showcased the fact that it is never too late to have a little fun.
