Bishop Martin 300Diocese of Charlotte Bishop Michael Martin, OFM Conv. reflects on President Carter's life of service:

"I am saddened to learn of the death of former President Jimmy Carter today at the age of 100. It will be for others to debate the value and limitations of his political life, but his life of faith and service stand as a witness to people of goodwill who desire to make a difference in the world.

I am struck by the impact of his life long after he held what many believe to be the most powerful position in the world. President Carter was a wonderful example of faith in action in the halls of power and the scaffolds of the homeless.

I was inspired reading two of his books, Sources of Strength and Living Faith, and recommend them still. I invite all of the faithful of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charlotte to offer prayers for the repose of the soul of this faithful service member, farmer, politician, president, advocate, peacemaker and Christian.

Our sympathies to his family and friends."
