122118 Golf tournamentKERNERSVILLE — The Knights of Columbus at Holy Cross Parish recently held a golf tournament to benefit Operation L.A.M.B.

The tournament at Pine Knolls Golf Club in Kernersville, an annual fundraiser for the council for 10-plus years, raised $3,700, of which $2,300 was for Operation L.A.M.B. and the balance going to the council for local charities.

More than 20 companies sponsored the event, and a total of eight foursomes played with about 20 local knights involved in playing or volunteering. The winning team, with a score of 62, was Chuck Tierney, Jim Valentine, Neal Rowland and Greg Klenke.

120718 PorrasFr AdrianCHARLOTTE — Bishop Peter Jugis has appointed Father Adrian Porras as vicar forane of the Asheville Vicariate effective Nov. 6. He succeeds Father Wilbur Thomas, who retired last summer. Father Porras continues as pastor of St. Barnabas Church in Arden.

Sometimes called a dean, a vicar forane is a priest appointed by the bishop in order to promote a common pastoral activity in a region of the diocese and to provide spiritual and pastoral counsel to the other priests in that region, according to Church law.

The Diocese of Charlotte has 10 vicariates.
